Week 8 - Top Waiver Wire Adds | 2018 Fantasy Football

Week 7 is in the novels, so we're looking at snatching the gold mines off of the waiver wire. Let's get it. This list will only be composed of players owned in 55% or less of Yahoo leagues.

Quarterbacks

1. Mitchell Trubisky - Chicago Bears

- Yahoo Ownership: 53%

Don't get it twisted, Trubisky still looks like a pretty terrible thrower, and he's somehow notched back-to-back-to-back 315+ passing yard games, but more importantly is running like a madman, rushing for 181 yards and a score over their last three games and he currently sits as QB4 in FPPG on the year. The Bears QB will take on the Jets at home, who looked to be a tight crew early on, but due to injuries in their secondary have been torched by QBs over the last month of the season allowing multiple passing TDs in four straight and over 300 passing yards in 3-of-4.

- Next three matchups: NYJ, @BUF, DET

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $7-10

2. Baker Mayfield - Cleveland Browns

- Yahoo Ownership: 41%

It may not have looked pretty, but Baker's 21 FPs on Sunday were a new season-high. 21 FPs is exactly what you're looking for in a streamer. He showed his rushing upside/floor on Sunday as well, adding 43 yards with his legs. He takes on Pittsburgh in Week 8, who are allowing the 4th most FPs to the QB position. He has attackable matchups in each of his next three games.

- Next three matchups: @PIT, KC, ATL

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $3-5

Running Backs

1. Wendell Smallwood - Philadelphia Eagles

- Yahoo Ownership: 50%

As Doug Pederson always has, and continue to do, he deployed an RBBC in the Eagles 21-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers. For the second straight week, Wendell Smallwood led this Eagles team in snaps (62% and 52%), as well as touches 11-10 (Clement). With Ajayi sidelined and Sproles seemingly nowhere near return, it seems like both Clement and Smallwood have around a double-digit touch floor with 15+ touch upside depending on game script and the hot hand.

I'm not breaking the bank, given the road matchup vs. JAX and then a bye, but Smallwood is a stash flex option during bye weeks.

- Next three matchups: @JAX, BYE, DAL

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $2-5

2. Doug Martin/Jalen Richard - Oakland Raiders

- Yahoo Ownership: 24/22%

RIP to Beast Mode, who will likely miss the remainder of the 2018 season with that groin injury, opening up carries and targets to Martin and Richard with the former taking the early down work, and the latter the receiving. Outside of Lynch, Richard has played on a backfield-high 36% of the snaps this season, compared to just 14% for Martin. Neither of them have a GL rush so those carries may be up for grabs, but the roles are clearly defined.

Excluding Lynch's opportunities, Martin has received over 69% of the teams carries, while Richard has seen nearly 80% of the backfield's targets. Martin is the STD play, Richard the PPR guy. If I'm taking one, it's probably Richard based on the game script they'll have moving forward.

- Next three matchups: IND, @SF, LAC

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $3-5 on either

3. Ronald Jones - Tampa Bay Bucs

- Yahoo Ownership: 16%

Starting RB Peyton Barber came down with an injury late in Sunday's game, but we don't know the extent. Koetter says "injury report comes out on Wednesday", okay buddy. If Barber misses any time, Jones will by default step into a pretty big workload for the Bucs. Jones has been unbelievably inefficient on the year, following an awful pre-season, and it's not a shoe-in that he's featured. He's only out-carried Quiz Rodgers 17-12 on the year and has two fewer targets and receptions then him. That's if Barber misses time at all. I'm not even close to as excited about picking up Jones as some people will be. None of his upcoming matchups are very appetizing either.

- Next three matchups: @CIN, @CAR, WAS

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $7-10

4. Raheem Mostert - San Francisco 49ers

- Yahoo Ownership: 13%

Breida is clearly hurt. If you couldn't tell by the limp he had two weeks ago, we know now for sure, after logging just five snaps on Sunday. While Mostert clearly had the best game in the Niners backfield, Juszczyk out-snapped both he (22) and Morris (20) on the day. Mostert has back-to-back quality showings after Sunday's 7-59 game, giving him 146 rushing yards on 19 carries (7.7 ypc) over the last two weeks to go along with four receptions on Sunday.

I'd expect Breida to miss some time, but it's hard to gage what the backfield split will be like considering Morris out-carried RM 9-7. He should've earned himself more play time, but who knows. He's nothing but a very desperate add imo.

- Next three matchups: @ARZ, OAK, NYG

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $3

5. Chris Ivory - Buffalo Bills

- Yahoo Ownership: 8%

With just two carries to his name, Shady exited Sunday's ass-whoopin with what looked like a leg injury but turned out to be a concussion, or so we think. His timetable to return is questionable for Week 8, which would put Chris Ivory in line for a big workload. Despite a horrible script (37-5) on Sunday, Ivory still carried the ball 16 times for 81 yards (5.1 ypc). Murphy caught 5 passes in this one and could have a role if Shady misses time, but Ivory's workload's have been big in the games McCoy has missed. In Week 3, Ivory carried the ball 20 times to go along with 3 receptions and 70 yards. He caught three passes on Sunday too. Ivory will actually be a sneaky-good play in Week 8 at home versus NE.

- Next three matchups: NE, CHI, @NYJ

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $7-10

***Keep an eye on the Patriot's backfield & Jets, with Sony Michel and Bilal Powell getting hurt - Kenjon Barner, Mike Gillislee maybe?, Trenton Cannon and Elijah McGuire.

Wide Receivers

1. Chris Godwin - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

- Yahoo Ownership: 49%

While Godwin didn't light up the box score on Sunday, he looks to be settling into that WR2 role in Tampa. He logged 66% of the snaps on Sunday, more than Humphries and D-Jax for the first time this season since Week 1. His 5-59 line seems to be settling in as his usual floor, with big upside having scored in 4-of-6 games. Godwin is currently on pace for a 69-821-10.6 line on the season, while only playing 57% or more of TB's snaps twice. As his role grows, so will his fantasy value.

- Next three matchups: @CIN, @CAR, WAS

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $8-12

2. Robby Anderson - New York Jets

- Yahoo Ownership: 47%

With Enunwa and Pryor both out of the Jets lineup, Anderson was their only real outside threat on Sunday. Sure, Jermaine Kearse was there, but the only reason we liked him was that he'd be working in the slot, but with the injuries, he didn't. Andre Roberts did. Like who tf is Andre Roberts, finished with 6 targets. But Robby Anderson saw a team-high 10 targets. With all the injuries, Anderson should continue to see volume on the outside. His aDOT of 21.4 is super valuable as well, as we've seen Darnold, while play terrible at times, isn't afraid to chuck it downfield.

- Next three matchups: @CHI, @MIA BUF

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $8-10

3. Geronimo Allison - Green Bay Packers

- Yahoo Ownership: 37%

Coming off the bye week, Allison should hopefully be well rested and ready to return to the lineup after missing a few games with a concussion and hamstring issues. We'll have to monitor the practice reports to see what his and Cobb's status is. When he returns, I expect Allison to continue to produce like the second or third target in this offense, and I'd prefer him to Cobb, who has looked pretty bad this year. Through four active games, Allison is on pace for 108 targets, 76 receptions, 1,156 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns.

MVS will lose playing time if both are healthy but might've earned himself a bigger role.

- Next three matchups: @LAR, @NE, MIA

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $10

4. Courtland Sutton - Denver Broncos

- Yahoo Ownership: 4%

With Demaryius Thomas on the trade block for Denver, which makes sense, Sutton would be next up. At this point, he's probably more talented than Thomas and a better for the offense. But the Broncos for some reason don't want to test the theory, they've given Sutton run, but it should be he and Sanders.

If Thomas does get moved, Sutton will become an instant fantasy WR3 with monster upside.

- Next three matchups: @DET, MIA

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $4-5

5. Christian Kirk - Arizona Cardinals

- Yahoo Ownership: 26%

He's not a guy I'm super excited about, but given the change at OC, I can't imagine this offense getting worse and Kirk has led the Cardinals WRs in yards in five straight games. They get two good matchups sandwiching their bye so the rookie could be looked at as a WR3/flex option in PPR leagues.

- Next three matchups: SF, BYE, @KC

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $3-5

6. Tre'Quan Smith - New Orleans Saints

- Yahoo Ownership: 17%

This is one of the more important names to get out here this week. For those of you that don't know TQ the gawd, he's the Saints 3rd round rookie WR out of UCF, standing at 6-2, 210lbs and stands to benefit the most from Ted Ginn's season-ending injury. Smith fits into this offense perfectly, operating as a solid all-around WR, with special skills down the field on long passes. Following his 3-111-2 game in Week 6, Smith didn't do much on Sunday (3-44) against a really tough Baltimore secondary. But the big takeaway is that Smith played on 73% of the snaps compared to 25% for Cameron Meredith who would be his biggest competition for targets following Ginn's injury.

In Week 8, the Saints travel to Minnesota, where Xavier Rhodes left Sunday's game with an ankle sprain and may miss some time after the Vikings are already short-handed at CB. This could be a sneaky good spot start for Smith if you're desperate.

- Next three matchups: @MIN, LAR, @CIN

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $6-10

7. Martavis Bryant - Oakland Raiders

- Yahoo Ownership: 4%

With Cooper being traded, Carr only has a few options left to throw the ball too. Obviously, Jordy becomes an intriguing top option in the passing offense, but Martavis should see his fair share of looks. Both Bryant and Seth Roberts played about 73% of the team's snaps on Sunday, and they'll continue to split time, but I'd much rather have the upside of Bryant. He hasn't been good, but he's thrust into this role.

- Next three matchups: IND, @SF, LAC

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $3

Tight Ends

1. C.J. Uzomah - Cincinnati Bengals

- Yahoo Ownership: 52%

Nothing new here Uzomah is here by default and now gets a TB defense that gets molested by TEs, week in and week out, allowing 50+ yards AND a TD to opposing TEs in four straight games.

- Next three matchups: TB, BYE, NO

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $1-3

2. Vance McDonald - Pittsburgh Steelers

- Yahoo Ownership: 40%

He needs to be owned, people. He's probably better than 60% of your guys' starting TEs right now. Outside of his first week back from injury, Vance has been really good apart from the one bust game.

- Next three matchups: CLV, @BAL, CAR

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $5-7

3. Chris Herndon - New York Jets

- Yahoo Ownership: 1%

Again, with the whole Jets weapons group banged up, the Jets 4th round rookie TE out of Miami has emerged as a top pass-catcher for Darnold. He caught 4-of-7 targets for 42 yards and a tuddy on Sunday, should've had two and now has back to back TD games. He's still splitting time with Neil Sterling but his playtime should grow.

- Next three matchups: @CHI, @MIA, BUF

- Use #1 Waiver Wire: No

- FAAB Spend: $0-1
