Best Ball Wide Receiver Break Down

Best Ball Wide Receiver Break Down

Steven Mullen here with another Best Ball blog. In this one we will be taking a Best Ball specific look at the Wide Receiver position. I always draft 7 WRs for my Best Ball teams and I will not carry more then 2 with the same bye week.

Tier 1

1. Deandre Hopkins Hou

2. Devante Adams GB

3. Odell Beckham Cle

4. Tyreek Hill KC

5. Julio Jones Atl

6. Michael Thomas NO

7. JuJu Smith-Schuster Pit

8. Mike Evans TB

9. Antonio Brown Oak

Tier Notes: A lot of folks debate Hopkins vs Adams for the #1 spot. It is incredibly close for me. So close that the tie breaker for me is the fact Hopkins played through 3 injuries last season that have kept players from playing games. His ability to play through injury at a high level makes him my #1. I have Odell and Tyreek above Julio simply for the fact I think they have a better chance to finish as the actual WR 1.

Tier 2

10. Adam Theilen Min

11. Keenan Allen LAC

12. Stefon Diggs Min

13. Ty Hilton Ind

14. Chris Godwin TB

15. Kenny Golladay Det

16. Brandin Cooks LAR

17. Mike Williams LAC

18. Calvin Ridley Atl

19. Julian Edelman NE

20. Robert Woods LAR

21. Tyler Lockett Sea

22. DJ Moore Car

23. Tyler Boyd Cin

Tier Notes:  I prefer my WR 2 be someone from this tier. Cooper might seem a bit high based on inconsistency but week to week average output is less of a concern for Best Ball. We want those monster ceiling weeks and our bench to clean up the mess when things go bad. Cooper certainly has shown he can produce serious ceiling weeks. The back end of this tier has Godwin, Golladay and Mike Williams a lot of people might argue against these three. I have included them because of their low end WR 1 upside.

Tier 3

24. Curtis Samuel Car

25. Amari Cooper Dal

26. Cooper Kupp LAR

27. Allen Robinson Chi

28. Robby Anderson NYJ

29. Christian Kirk Ari

30. Josh Gordon NE

31. Alshon Jeffery Phi

32. Will Fuller Hou

33. Jarvis Landry Cle

34. Marvin Jones Det

35. Sterling Shepard NYG

36. Sammy Watkins KC

37. Dante Pettis SF

Tier Notes: A lot of folks might scoff at Kirk, Anderson and Pettis over a guy like Alshon Jeffery who has a proven track record. This is again a Best Ball specific thing. Those players upside along with bigger boom weeks has me value them over a steadier commodity in Alshon. Will Fuller would be the head of that group for me if not for his injuries the past few seasons.

Tier 4

38. Corey Davis Ten

39. Courtland Sutton Den

40. Marquez Valdes-Scantling GB

41. Dede Westbrook Jax

42.Geronimo Allison GB

43. Larry Fitzgerald Ari

44. AJ Green Cin

45. Desean Jackson Phi

Tier Notes: This tier is a mix of #1 receivers on poor teams and deeper WR on great offenses. If your early WR picks are risky or you go RB heavy I prefer the guys with an established role from this tier(Sutton, Westbrook, Davis, Samuel, Fitz). If you feel extremely comfortable with your WR group I prefer taking the shots on the high reward guys(Green Bay guys, Coutee, Jackson). AJ Green finally shows up in this tier I think it's too risky to take him earlier then this so I likely won't be getting anymore shares of him. His injury doesn't have an exact time table week 2-3 supposedly. I am willing to gamble on him in this range but you likely won't find him on the board in this range.

Tier 5

46. Donte Moncrief Pit

47. Anthony Miller Chi

48. James Washington Pit

49. Keke Coutee Hou

50. DK Metcalf Sea

51. Nkeal Harry NE

52. Michael Gallup Dal

53. John Brown Buf

54. Golden Tate NYG

55. Devin Funchess Ind

56. Marquise Brown Bal

57. Zay Jones Buf

58. Deebo Samuel SF

59. Trequan Smith NO

60. Devante Parker Mia

61. Kenny Stills Mia

62. Emmanuel Sanders Den

63. Andy Isabella Ari

64. Desean Hamilton Den

65. Tyrell Williams Oak

66. Miles Boykin Bal

67. Jalen Hurd SF

68. Albert Wilson Mia

Tier Notes: Lots of boom bust players(John Brown, Albert Wilson, Trequon Smith) in this tier as well as some criminally under valued players( Zay Jones, Devante Parker, Kenny Stills). This is a tier that I am particularly interested in spreading ownership out on. With high ceilings and low floors this is a great tier to stack with a QB from. If one of these players hits ceiling their QB will get a huge boost.

Tier 6

69. Mohammed Sanu Atl

70. Adam Humphries Ten

71. AJ Brown Ten

72. David Moore Sea

73. Preston Williams Mia

74. Rashard Higgins Cle

75. Mecole Hardman KC

76. Randall Cobb Dal

77. Cole Beasley Buf

78. DJ Chark Jax

79. Tre Quinn Was

80. Marquise Lee Jax

81. Quincy Enunwa NYJ

82. Ted Ginn NO

83. JJ Arcega-Whiteside Phi

84. Taylor Gabriel Chi

85. Chis Conley Jax

Tier Notes:  The ultimate dart tier. Usually when selecting a player from this teir I will check my QBs and bye weeks and see if I can fit a guy from this tier with their QB I may already own. Keep in mind I only take 2 of a QBs pass catching targets and only 2 WR with the same bye week. I also look at my roster construction and gauge how much risk I am looking to take before picking from this tier much like Tier 5.

Good Luck in your Drafts!
Steve
